‘Let Them Eat Fish’ – Brixham

'Let Them Eat Fish' - Banksy - Brixham, Devon

Banksy’s been to Brixham again!

Every so often pro photographers have the unthankful task of cleaning the very expensive digital sensor in their cameras. This is a delicate and sometimes ‘fatal’ operation if you are not very, very careful. The alternative is to leave it to the experts and try to ignore the £50 it costs to have done. The alternative (a new sensor) can run to thousands so it’s well worth it). One such expert is Tim Kendall at MifSuds in Brixham. Fortunately we love walking in and around Brixham and so we had a great excuse to spend 90 minutes walking around (at a healthy pace of course) whilst Tim did his stuff with the Brillo pads!

They have an amazing new fish market in the town which is mainly for the trade but along one side there is a small kiosk-type opening where David Walker and Sons sell fish direct to the public. That’s where we were delighted to see we’d had a visit again from Banksy with his ‘Let Them Eat Fish’. Let’s hope nobody tries to steal the wall like they’ve tried elsewhere!  The shot was taken using the 8 MegaPixel camera on the new iPhone 4s.

Here is the shot in context:

About Colin Cadle

I trained as a pilot at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell flying jets and qualified as a captain on Wessex search and rescue helicopters in the Gulf. However, my professional future was destined to be firmly back on the ground... In 1976 a chance introduction to Julie Andrews' husband film producer Blake Edwards really kicked off my interest in photography after he invited me onto the set of the Peter Sellers' now classic film 'The Pink Panther Strikes Again' at Shepperton Studios. Stills photographer David Farrell further fired my enthusiasm when, during a break in filming, I was offered a short photo shoot with leading fashion model and 'Bond girl' actress Maud Adams. From that moment on art and photography have always played a major part in my life. I now live in the beautiful southwest corner of England with my designer and photo-stylist wife Jan. Following a serious illness in 2016 we were forced to leave commercial photography behind us but this now allows me to concentrate solely on creating art from my studio in Devon
